Week 61 - The Rains Came Down

Servus!!

This week has been pretty cool, especially with General Conference this past weekend! It was so good to hear from our living prophet and apostles, and I am glad that several of our friends were able to watch it, too. It was just the pick me up we needed after what happened Friday…

It started as a normal day. Actually, to preface, some of you probably already know that wind is my least favorite type of weather. I just don’t see how anything more than the lightest of breezes would be necessary. That, and as soon as you add in any other weather phenomena, such as rain or snow, it becomes exponentially worse. Hopefully you can tell the depth of my feelings towards wind. And Friday was no different. We were going dooring in a nearby town with plans to stop at a members house for dinner before continuing on. There had been some off and on rain all afternoon, but we had met only nice people while knocking. By the time we made it to the member’s house, it was nice and sunny, and that continued for the hour we were there before switching with a vengeance to a bitter storm as soon as we were about to leave. But, we still had more dooring to do – it’s a long story, but there was a street we had come there to knock and we hadn’t done it yet. Our sweet member asks if we will be okay as we’re leaving, and we assure her we will be fine with our umbrellas.

We started out and realized maybe we weren’t as fine as we thought. This hadn’t been predicted in the forecast, so we were not prepared. We continued pressing forward until we reached the point that we were staggering with our umbrellas directly in front of us fighting against the wind and rain, but freezing and getting soaked nonetheless. At one point it got so bad that we couldn’t move forward and our umbrellas were about to break (I’m surprised they lasted this long), but we spotted shelter in someone’s car port and ran over to it. Like shivering wet mice we decided to pray that we would be able accomplish what we came here to do, that the storm would settle and we would safely make it to the street we wanted to knock. Once finished, we looked at each other, and with renewed determination, opened our umbrellas and stepped out into what was basically a hurricane.

I wish that I could say it stopped and all was well, but alas, it was still just as bad. But with faith in our hearts we kept going anyways. I don’t think I have ever been so wet and so cold, but we made it over to this street. Once there, the rain slowed to a bearable amount and the wind had mostly calmed. We knocked the whole street, and although everyone was kind, no one had any interest in hearing more. We regrouped and decided to head home so we could warm up. We made the 20 min walk back to the train station only to find out we missed the last train by about 15 min and it would be half an hour until the next. We sat down in moderate shelter sending texts with our frozen fingers until the train came. We headed over to the platform where we heard the announcement it would be 15 min delayed. We sat down again, curled up to fight against the wind on our wet clothes. 15 minutes pass and we get another announcement, it will be another 15 min. We look over to where the train should be coming from and we see the train just sitting there! At this point we are cursing DB and the weather and begging the train to just come pick us up. After waiting a total of an hour, the train that had just been sitting there rolled up and we got on to ride home.

It took us a hot shower and being wrapped in blankets to thaw ourselves out, but we survived the whole experience. I don’t know why it happened like it did. I don’t know why we were down there and why we had to knock this street. I don’t know why we kept going in the face of the storm only to receive no reward. I don’t know why the miracles we thought might happen just didn’t. But, I do know that God knows.

Sorry for the kinda rant 😅

Also, we got transfer calls on Saturday!! Unfortunately, I will be leaving Augsburg amd abandoning Sister Gladwell, but I will be headed back to where it all began, Wien Zone! I will be pink washing (putting in Sisters where there used to be Elders) Wiener Neustadt with Sister Martin! I am super pumped to get over there and get to work in what I am sure will be a great area, so stay tuned.

I hope you all have a great week!!
