Week 38

Climbing Mountains

Grüessech mitenand!!

This week was full of very long days, starting early in the morning and going until very late. While satisfying, the work still takes its toll on you. It is worth it though, like climbing a mountain, every step forward– even though it may be hard– is worth it for the reward of the top.

Sometimes climbing mountains is more literal. For example, last preparation day we went hiking around the Matterhorn (the mountain on Toblerone bars) and every difficult and steep step was worth it for the views we saw when we made it up.

And then sometimes the mountains are the everyday life. For us, it is contacting members and friends, setting up and planning appointments, teaching lessons and giving spiritual thoughts, planning larger activities, working with other missionaries, finding new friends, and more. So many little steps we have to make everyday, sometimes they are easy, but sometimes the few steps are a little more like climbing. Everyone has different mountains to climb, but for every mountain, much faith is required to climb. As much as I can talk about this, a much better source has already given insight. In a talk from General Conference April 2012, President Henry B. Eyring spoke about “Mountains to Climb”. He said:

“It is never too late to strengthen the foundation of faith. There is always time. With faith in the Savior, you can repent and plead for forgiveness. There is someone you can forgive. There is someone you can thank. There is someone you can serve and lift. You can do it wherever you are and however alone and deserted you may feel.”

It is really hard to turn outwards when we are struggling, when we feel alone and deserted, but pressing forward, following the perfect example the Savior has set, is the best thing you can do. It will help now as you go through trials as well as help prepare you for the mountains ahead. I would also highly recommend reading this talk from President Eyring.
