Week 32

Just Keep Knocking

Posted by Kezia Tripp on Tuesday, September 13, 2022

Hallo zusammen!!

Since both Sister Clark and I are new in Burgdorf (whitewashing), it is a bit of a slow start as we try and meet all our friends from the other Sisters and build relationships with the members. This means that we have been doing a lot of vorbeis (when we just show up at someone’s door and try and share a short spiritual thought with them, or make a time for an appointment later). Some of them are for members, active or less, and some for friends, and some other random addresses that the other Sisters left behind with little to no explanation.

We have gone by a lot of apartments and houses, some really far out with long walks or bike rides needed with very little success– and some pretty disappointing rejections. This made us wary about knocking the last couple of doors this past Monday, one of which had knocked before with no answer.

We knocked the door we had knocked before first, and she opened! It was a sweet old lady who let us read a chapter from the Book of Mormon to her and agreed that we could come back in a week to meet again. With high hopes we went to the next door where they said to try again later, they were busy right now. But that’s fine, we had one more door. This last door we were unsure about since the name written by the doorbell was different than what we were expecting, but we went for it anyways. And once again, she opened the door! It turns out she had met with missionaries previously (something about breakfast appointments? Not really sure since she was speaking Swiss German) and would love to meet again and come to church with us on Sunday! And she was so excited when we said we could help her with her garden since she has a bad hip and can’t bend over.

Even though we weren’t sure if it would be worth it to knock these doors, thinking maybe it would be a waste of time with no success – getting this idea from previous attempts too. But we went! We felt that it was important to try these doors again and looking back, I am very grateful we followed this prompting. God really is looking out for us and for His other children around us and I am grateful for this opportunity to be His hands for the people here in Switzerland.

I wish you all a wonderful week!!
